About the Artist
I began my art journey at Minor High School under the tutelage of Rik Lazenby, who taught me techniques, color, and composition. I won an award for a mixed media piece in a state-wide competition at the high school level.
I have worked in the automobile repair business for over 50 years and have produced multiple custom paint jobs for standard cars and race cars. I have had over 35 cars featured in the World of Wheels, a yearly event in Birmingham, Alabama.
I reconnected with Rik Lazenby at Artist on the Bluff in Hoover, Alabama, where he is a featured artist and instructor and started taking classes at night.
I have been a competitor in the Senior Artist class for the Church of God talent competitions, winning in Gardendale, Al, for a state award and in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, for a national award for faith-based artworks three years in a row.
I work with materials from the automobile industry, incorporating them with modern painting techniques, achieving a unique style and look. I work with inks and acids, modeling clay and recycled materials to create mixed-media art.
I am married to Mary, the love of my life, and we have two children, Wendy and John. We have also been blessed with two grandsons, Blake and Brit and have just welcomed a new great-granddaughter Bailey. I currently reside in Pinson, Alabama, and have two fur babies.
