About the Artist
A surrealist at heart, Liza Compass creates drawings on paper in colored pencil and pen and ink, often combining these mediums to recreate the colors, textures and emotional flow of her dreams.
Inspired by lucid dreams and the majesties of the natural world, Liza’s work straddles the boundary between Realism and Surrealism. As a self-taught award-winning artist, Liza shares a unique perspective through her work as an artist and musician living with sound-to-color synesthesia, bending the rules and daring to see a more whimsical side to our everyday world.
Liza’s artwork is constantly evolving as the creative strives to combine unexpected materials with more classic methods of artmaking to capture what inspires her most in likeness, emotion and higher meaning. Emotional potency is the driving force behind everything Liza does, which she hopes to communicate to the viewer through her choices in color, motion, texture and juxtapositional elements. Her work embodies the celebration of timeless lessons, intelligent design, and the power of creative expression, as we are all perfectly designed, intentional expressions of the creator with our own special purpose.

“Dreaming Downstream”
“Dreaming Downstream” is a 19×30 inch colored pencil drawing. It represents my happy place… a dock along the river right outside my home where I can go to contemplate, dream, and recenter myself in times of stress.
I wanted to capture the chaos of life morphing into a whimsical flow of my own creation. I hope it brings hope and happiness to viewers, while offering a message of encouragement and calm.
