The SPACE COAST ART FESTIVAL® is moving to a new location – once again! Space Coast Daily Park, the new venue, is located in Viera, Florida, just north of Melbourne. Viera is a well-established vibrant upscale master planned community built from the ground up. We feel that this new location will provide a high end clientele for our artists in a venue that is becoming the outdoor Event Center of Brevard County. The Park is just off I-95 near the new Viera Boulevard exit and is easy to reach from all of central Florida.
The journey to this new location has been filled with obstacles. After 50 years holding an annual art show in downtown Cocoa Beach, SCAF received a letter in February of 2014 from the City of Cocoa Beach, signed by the mayor and all the Commissioners, asking us to relocate the show due to the planned beautification projects plus the construction of a new Fire Station. Thus began a search of every possible alternative site within Cocoa Beach, but no suitable location was found.
Port Canaveral approached SCAF about holding the show at the Port and we did that for two very successful years. It was a beautiful location, spacious, easy to access, and the Exploration Tower provided us with space for a temporary office and room for final judging. Unfortunately, in 2016 the Port decided our show was too large to accommodate along with the traffic it created. Even worse, they did not inform us of their decision until 90 days prior to the Show making it impossible to relocate the Show that year and the Show was cancelled costing SCAF $35,000.
In 2017 and 2018 we held the show at the riverside Manatee Sanctuary Park in Cape Canaveral. This beautiful Park was a great setting but once again there were problems. It was not visible from A1A making it difficult to find, parking was a problem, and proper signage was fraught with difficulties.
AND NOW TO 2019 and the resolve to find THE best location in Brevard County for SCAF. An extensive search was made by our President, Marilyn Grigsby, and several of the Board Members. After much consideration Space Coast Daily Park was decided upon and negotiations began. SpaceCoastDaily.com is a social platform with free articles and emails on the latest in news and events. Because of this outreach they have the ability to widely publicize the events that are held at the Park. Some of those recent events have been the Space Coast Music and Seafood Fest, Willie Nelson Concert, and the Space Coast State Fair.
The 30 acre venue includes parking for 4,000 visitors, on site dry camping for Artists (only $35 per night), a Food Court, and much more. An electronic sign will be placed at the entrance of the show prior and during the show. Extensive advertising will be placed in and beyond Brevard County by both SCAF and SpaceCoastDaily.com. Our “rent” to Space Coast Daily will include the $5.00 parking fee per car to show visitors. (Therefore Space Coast Daily will work to attract as many visitors as possible!) Artists will have free parking and there is no charge for visitors to enter the show.
The Park is visible from I-95 and the nearby exit provides easy access to the Show. Viera is near shopping, restaurants, hotels, the top-rated Brevard Zoo, the Viera Wetlands which is a magnet for local wildlife, and much, much more!
The Space Coasts Art Festival will be held on new dates October 19- 20, 2019.
